Witch Altars are the crux of Bewitchment, and are vital to most everything in the mod. It is the heart of any witch's garden.

NOTE: Altars DO NOT STACK! Two Altars with 300 ME each will not equal 600! Any ME-drawing source will only connect to 1 Altar. One way to view this is Altars are less "batteries" and are more "measurements" of available magic in the area.

Witch's Altar[]

The focus of all magic is your Altar. The ambient Magical Energy (ME) in the area is channeled and focused through this Altar. Without a nearby Altar, barely anything works, and if your Altar isn't powerful enough you might still encounter problems. If you are not satisfied with the amount of ME stored in your Altar, try planting some trees and flowers around it! Variety in plant life also helps a lot. Once you have planted a certain (unverified) amount of one plant, further plants of the same species will not add to the amount of ME, and will in fact start to decrease the amount of ME.

Modifiers[]

There are three types of Altar modifier- Swords, Wands and Pentacles.

Calculation[]

ME is calculated as follows:

maxPower = (blocks/10)* variety bonus (up to 400%) * sword bonus + wand value

Variety bonus is calculated by adding 10% for every 4 unique blocks. This means adding 4 melons to an area without melons adds 10% to the variety bonus. Swords offer a set multiplier. Wand value is unaffected by everything else. The amount of a single block you can have caps at 256 but too many blocks won't subtract from your value. This means that you can have a max of 256 melons before they become useless.

Swords[]

Swords are, well, swords. In this category are all vanilla swords, the Athame, the Horned Scepter, and the Caduceus. Swords will increase the storage multiplier, meaning their effect is multiplicative. This effect does not stack with Wands. Enchantments do not change the 'worth' of a Sword.

Swords
Item ME gain
Wooden Sword +10%
Stone Sword +10%
Iron Sword +10%
Gold Sword +20%
Diamond Sword +20%
Netherite Sword +30%
Caduceus +30%
Horned Spear +30%

Wands[]

Wands are a category of light-emitting (with one exception) rods. They give a flat bonus to the Altar score, and are therefore most useful in frugal Altars with little plants. Of the Wands, the only one that does not have the ability to give off light when placed is the Scepter. Candles are not considered Wands. Candelabras placed on the Altar keep their ghost repelling abilities.
